Local Activities

From standup paddleboards to fishing charters to whale watching to luxury yachts, The Balboa House sits on the edge of the watery world of Newport Harbor. Whether it’s a three-hour tour or a bluefin/yellowfin (yum!) expedition or 23 miles to Catalina Island, Newport Harbor offers a wide variety of small and large craft to get out and explore the secrets of the sea.

Car Ferry

The quick and clean way to transition from The Balboa House to the Balboa Peninsula. This is it by the numbers: A walk of ⅓ mile to the Balboa Island Car Ferry which costs $1.25 for adults, .50 cents for children and anywhere from $1.50 to $2.25 for bikes to cars. The trip across the water is about 800 feet and takes about five minutes at five miles per hour.

Downtown Balboa

Gummy bears to gourmet, you won’t go hungry on Balboa Island. A short walk or a short drive opens up a world of possibilities for eating, drinking and being merry: Lots of fresh-caught seafood at Basilic Restaurant of course, but also the “Original” Frozen Banana at Dad’s. A great local breakfast at Wilma’s. The Wedge salad at Fleming’s steakhouse is named for the dirty old Wedge - an infamous wave breaking at the end of the Balboa Peninsula. Off the island grub but close-by includes The Cannery, A Market/A Restaurant or Javier's.

Fun Zone

From the The Balboa House you can see and hear the Balboa Fun Zone glistening and twinkling a half mile across the water but unless you like to swim, the best way to get there is the Balboa Ferry - not far away at all. A short trip across the water gets you to a zone with a lot of fun.

Living it up on Balboa Island.

At The Balboa House, we believe a true community shouldn't be gated or fenced in – it should seamlessly meld into its surroundings. That's why we chose Newport’s beautiful Balboa Island for our location.
